Southern Decadence weekend is September 2-6 and is the largest gay street party in the United States if not the world. Every year more than 100,000 gay men and women descend on the streets of the French Quarter to celebrate the gay life style. This year's theme is "Hurricanes - This Year We Blow Back." The colors are red, black and silver and the theme song is "Stormy Weather." There are events all weekend long including the crowning of the King of Decadence Thursday night, September 2, at 11:00 PM at Rawhide during the Fetish Ball. The Annual Bear Beerbust is also at Rawhide beginning at 4:00 PM and going until the beer runs out. Good Friends Bar will have their Annual USDA Aged Prime Beef Contest at 11:00 PM on the 2nd. It is open to anyone over the age of thirty-five and the winner will receive $100 cash. That same night at midnight Cafe Lafitte will host the Dick of Decadence Contest in the Balcony Bar at midnight. There will be a $5 door charge with all the winnings being split between the top three contestants (50% - 30% - 20%). Sunday, September 5 Good Friends will host the High Hair Contest at 5:00 PM. The winner of this contest will receive the coveted Bronze Barbie. The parade begins promptly at 2:00 outside the Golden Lantern and will wind through the Fruit Loop ending at Cafe Lafitte where the after party is held. The weather is as hot as the men so leave your sweaters at home.
